While confirming that the company will indeed announce a 3 TB hard drive later this year, Seagate product manager Barbara Craig admitted that moving to a capacity greater than 2.1 TB requires more work than merely upping the areal density. In fact, most PCs just aren't built to cope with hard drive capacities beyond that limit thanks to the original logical block addressing (LBA) standard set by Microsoft and IBM twenty years ago.
We've heard this before song and dance before: the limited LBA was originally designed for DOS, and only allotted 512-byte sectors for each sector, locking capacities to a 2.1 TB limit. According to Craig, at the time no one imagined that technology would allow for capacities over 2.1 TB when the LBA standard was developed in 1980.

Tegra 2-powered Android devices will hit the market by the end of the year.
Nvidia chief Jen-Hsun Huang recently spoke with Nvidia executives and market analysts during a conference call and revealed that Android-based devices with Tegra 2 will hit the market by the end of the year. Huang wouldn't specify the manufacturers behind the Android devices, preferring to focus his wrath on Apple's A4 SoC, calling it Tegra 2's primary competitor over Qualcomm (Snapdragon), Texas Instruments (OMAP), and Intel (Moorestown).
"Although it made sense for the first-generation Androids to use available phone processors, the follow-up generations of Android are really going to go after performance," Huang said during the call. "And iPhones are out there, the iPhone 4G is coming, the iPad is obviously a revolutionary product. The bar is pretty high for all of the mobile players, and so they need a processor that can keep up with the A4. If not, be much better than what the A4 can do because they have to take on the leader in the space.

CALL OF DUTY Black Ops coming with dedicated servers
PC gamers who were unhappy with the decision by Infinity Ward to drop dedicated server support in the last COD release will be pleased to know that this will apparently not be a trend continued by Treyarch this time around. It has been confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PC release will offer dedicated server support for multiplayer modes.
The decision by Treyarch is working, however, to consolidate the experience between the PC and console versions of the game in an attempt to offer a more seamless experience for those on the PC that want it. It is expected that people who want to run BlackOps servers will be able to do so.
While all of the details on dedicated server support for the PC do not appear to have been ironed out yet, the clear indication that Treyarch is heading in this direction should be good news for those who didn’t like the PC offering last time around. We expect to hear more specific details over the next several months as the company gets closer to ramping up for release.source

Intel want to buy Infineon's wireless business
German chipmaker Infineon is chatting to Intel about flogging its wireless chip business. German business daily Financial Times Deutschland reported that the Munich-based Infineon, which supplies chips for Apple's iPad and Nokia, Samsung and Research in Motion, is unsure whether a divestment makes sense.
While most analysts say the sale would make sense for Intel to buy Infineon's wireless business they are less enthusiastic about the idea that it is such a hot move for Infineon. Its Chief Executive Peter Bauer told Reuters in March he saw no reason why the chipmaker should not try to further develop the business.

Nvidia also preparing GF106 and GF108 chips with GF104
There are a few new chips coming from Nvidia this summer and we managed to confirm that a mainstream and entry level Nvidia cards are among the plans.
We don’t want to bug you much with the new promised performance market king, the GD104 chip, as we mentioned this one a few times, but it’s quite interesting to get some basic details about the mainstream and low end chips from Nvidia.
The chip that sits in mainstream market is GF106 and this one should power the cards that should replace the already overused GTS250, G92-based cards. The cards based on the GF106 chip should have some 75W TDP power but this specification is not final at press time, so no guarantees there.
