Intel expects In Q4 2010 65nm CPUs should go to the history books

Intel is at the peak of its 45nm production. According to its internal plans, 45nm CPUs make up 87 percent of its total desktop processor production. This is quite a number, as in the same quarter Intel had some 10 percent of 32nm improved Nehalem architecture CPUs.

Many will be surprised to hear that 65nm is still alive and that it this quite old process accounted for some 3 percent of total production. In the current quarter, the Q2 (not U2 ed. ) the 65nm share shrinks to 2 percent of all Desktop shipments, 45nm shrinks to 83 percent, while 32nm grows some 60 percent to 16 percent total share.

Intel 6 series chipsets for Sandy Bridge

Sandy Bridge, the brand new 32nm architecture is coming in Q1 2011 and so is the chipset to support it. There will be at least five different chipsets for these new dual and quad CPUs and let me present you a few of them.

The Q67 is the first on the list and it presents the Business stable generation of products. It supports LGA 1155 CPUs, has 14 USB 2.0. it has total of six SATA ports where two of them are 6Gb/sec while the others are slower.

Facebook brings in terrorist and pedophile section

Social notworking site Facebook has been often criticised for being a bit slow on cracking down on terrorists and pedophiles using the site.

Now sex offenders and people suspected of terrorist activity can now be reported to Facebook in a major upgrade of user safety features. The site has released a safety centre, an internal site which gives advice to users about cyber bullying, with a designated area for teens on how to report offensive or inappropriate material, as well as information for parents.

TSMC to develop below 14nm process, says chairman

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will be part of the industry's drive in the development of wafer manufacturing processes below 14nm, according to company chairman and CEO Morris Chang. TSMC has set an ambitious target of US$4.8 billion in capex for 2010, and will increase its workforce to 29,000 from 20,000 in 2009, said Chang.

Chang indicated that the global semiconductor market will only see moderate growth from 2011-14 because of a number of reasons, one of which is a slowdown in the pace as defined by Moore's Law.

Catalyst 10.4 A Preview driver

AMD has released yet another "preview" driver and it looks like AMD has finally managed to get its driver team in order. The new Catalyst 10.4 Preview is all about Battlefield: Bad Company 2 game and only supports the Radeon HD 5000 series.

The new "preview" driver, as AMD likes to call it, actually fixes the long load times for new maps in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 game. The driver is exclusive for ATI Radeon HD 5xxx series graphics cards.

We were told that the Catalyst 10.4a driver, the one that will support Radeon HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 series, is coming in the next few days. The Catalyst 10.4a will also include a single fix for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but as you know, even this is better than nothing.

Looks like AMD's statements about more serious attention to drivers are paying dividends, and we certainly like it.
