With the introduction of INTELS corei7 processors INTEL also introduced lot of new features and technologies like turbo boost. TURBO BOOST can be defined as the ability of C P U to increase its clock speed in case of under load situation mean the C P U can increase its clock speed from reference itself. TURBO BOOST was necessary for corei7 like chips because these giant chips are equipped with H T technology means these 4 cores chips can execute 8 threads simultaneously and it is very difficult to make applications with more the 4 threads so it is very difficult to maximize the utilization of C P U which is the primary goal of C P U manufacturing and also application with less then 4 threads can not utilize the C P U properly. Other thing is power management the 4 cores always remains active while they are not executing any threads so throughput decreases TURBO BOOST help in this scenario with this tech. the C P U can disable its cores that are not executing any thread and the saved power can be used to over clock the active core to make the execution fast. The TURBO BOOST makes a noticeable difference in the performance. This is the reason behind the corei3 and i5 series price and performance difference the corei3 and i5 series processor with TURBO BOOST provide more performance with more price compared to corei3 andi5 without TURBO BOOST.
This is also one of the reasons behind the performance difference between the INTEL and A M D chips these days the whole Phenom2 and Athlone2 are not equipped with this tech. that makes a difference but A M D also introducing its own version of this technology in its upcoming Phenom2 x6 processors that will show their face in the mid of 2010 a rival of INTEL six core processor. They are also implementing this tech. in their upcoming bulldozer series processor so this is a technology that will implement in all future series processor so TURBO BOOST IS A FUTURE TECHNOLOGY.
